COOKERY CLASSES & WINE WORKSHOPS AT HEART BUCHANAN Autumn/Winter 2008

Tuesday 21st October 7-9pm

Seasonal Cooking £40

Now that summer's over, we can concentrate on the culinary delights of Autumn. ‘The season of mists and mellow fruitfulness’ brings with it an abundance of produce that would inspire any kitchen. Come and learn about what’s best for eating right now; Game, wild mushrooms, orchard fruits and root vegetables and we’ll give you loads of recipes, tips and delicious sample dishes.

Tuesday 28th October 7-9pm

Bread Making £35

A brilliant class led by our master bread-maker, Andrew. He’ll break it down to the basics; selecting the right flour, the chemistry of bread making, kneading, proving and baking techniques. With the best first step baking course around, Andrew will make sure you can’t go wrong. Collect your own homemade and freshly baked bread the next morning.

Tuesday 4th November 7-9pm

Seafood Master Class £40

We demonstrate the basics of any fish and shellfish cookery giving tips and clues to buying the freshest, most ecological and sustainable seafood around. The class will equip you with the know-how to confidently prepare and cook a range of delicious fish, and shellfish dishes. We know how important it is to be thrifty too, and we encourage it, with particular attention to the less commonly used and therefore cheaper fish, showing you how to be resourceful with the whole product.

Christmas Cakes £40

A lesson with our pâtissier, Michelle. She’ll let you in on to her tried and tested recipe for a traditional Christmas fruitcake, with expert tips on professional decoration. As an added extra Michelle will also give you a demonstration of a non-fruit alternative for those ‘difficult’ relatives. Finally, as her cup cakes are now legendary in Glasgow, we offer you exclusive instruction in cup cake baking and decoration, this includes a lesson in how to create her vibrant, all natural colourings.

Tuesday 18th November 7-9pm

Fresh Pasta Master Class £40

A great class to get you started, you’ll never need to buy dried pasta again! We’ll show you how to prepare pasta dough and create various shapes; ravioli, manicotti, linguini and farfalle. To go with it, if a little parmesan isn’t enough, we’ll teach you how to make a fantastic simple tomato sauce, a basil pesto and basic cream sauce.

Preview of Christmas Wines £45

A preview and a tutored tasting of our selection of Christmas wine cases. A great introduction to some of the main grape varieties and advice for selecting the best bottles for your Christmas gatherings. Whether you know wines or not this fun workshop is a must-do for gastronauts of all types. What wine goes best with your Kelly Bronze turkey and which dessert wine should you be serving with Granny’s Christmas Pudding? We unlock all these secrets with tastings and a seasonal tapas platter to nibble on. 10% off all full cases purchased on the night.

Ready, Steady, Cook, Christmas Special! £40

We give you an opportunity to fill your basket from our deli shelves and put Andrew to the test by challenging him to create a series of dishes from your selection. A great lesson in how to create fantastic dinner party dishes from a few ingredients. We also show you how to menu plan from what you have in your cupboards and get you inspired for some hassle free entertaining over the festive season. See the benefits of stocking up your larder with a few essentials and you too will be able to eat, drink and be merry on Christmas Day and every day after!

We like these classes to be pretty hands on so you’ll leave with the comfort and knowledge to recreate these recipes at home. We keep classes small (between 6-8) so that everyone can get involved. All classes are suitable for complete novices, but also great for culinary masters wanting to hone their skills and show off some new creations. Classes are informal and relaxed, with tastings and questions through out as we believe the best cooking is produced over a bottle of wine and good discussion!
